A Sneak Preview of the Next Release of First Class

Our next release of First Class is currently being tested and will be available within the next week. The following is a sample of some of the new features and functions to whet your appetite!

Teacher details will now include the ability to include extra duties. These are included in the tallies in the teacher allocations and allotments reports. This means that you no longer have to manually calculate the amount of time each teacher spends doing extra duties, First Class does it all for you!
All grid printouts, including timetables, now have printing options that are saved to the database, even for individual grids. Every grid report or timetable can have it's own printing options, including zooming, fit to page, headers, footers, orientation, etc. So, you can set printing options for each individual item, even set different orientations for different teachers, and the options are saved to the database.
Set the shading for reports anywhere from 0-100%. Make your timetables look snappy!
Student timetables now display and print the student's form making distribution of timetables easier
New South Wales schools will be able to export senior student data to the Board Of Studies program. No more need to sit over a computer workstation and laboriously enter the data.
You can choose to omit "daughter" block extensions from your display and printout. This means much less confusion for both teachers and students.

  Did You Know?

Did you know that you can create a new allocation from within the timetable?

To do this:

Open up TOOLS>TIMETABLES and have the timetable for which you wish to make a new allocation on display
Make sure you are in EDIT mode
If the ADD ALLOCATION screen is not visible, right-click on the timetable and select ADD
On the ADD ALLOCATION screen, click NEW
Using the radio buttons, select to add a block or an allocation to the timetable

If you selected to add a BLOCK:

Click on the drop-arrow and select a block from the list
Click "OK"

If you selected to add an ALLOCATION:

Enter the details just as you would in the normal ALLOCATION MAINTENANCE screen
When the details are complete, click OK

A new allocation will appear in the ADD ALLOCATION screen. This can be added to the timetable in the usual way.

If you have spent any time in different states and territories within Australia you may have found yourself in a situation where you were totally confused about what someone was saying to you!

The Word Map website explains regionalisms, which are words, phrases or expressions used by particular communities in different parts of Australia. It’s quite fascinating to see how differently Australians can refer to the same thing. Some of them are quite amusing also!

There are a few different searches that you can perform on this website. If you have a particular word or phrase that you would like to find out about simply use the Word Search to see other words/phrases with the same meaning. You can also click on each of these for a dictionary definition and can even add your own comments and feedback. The Map Search allows you to click on a map of Australia and see a list of regionalisms for that area. If you would prefer to search alphabetically that is also an option.

Grammar, spelling, punctuation and pronunciation are all aspects of our language that have changed over time. The Word Vote is a poll that allows you to have your say about how you think a word or phrase should be spelt, punctuated or pronounced. You can also check to see how many other people agree with you!

If you have ever wondered what a "cossie" was, or not known how to respond when asked if you would like a glass of "chateau d’ cardboard" the Word Map website is worth a visit.
