First Class Newsletter Issue 4/2005

Product release

It is always pleasing to announce a new release as it usually means that the exciting new features we have added become available to you. We have just released a new version of First Class, A+ (Electronic Roll Marking) and First Class Web. There has already been an announcement concerning the new features in these products, but it is worthwhile reiterating the main ones.

You will be able to schedule absences for one or more dates, eg, enter a student's long-term illness in one step.
First Class Extras data will be included in the daily roll generation. Students on camp or excursion will be marked as such.
For schools with a wireless network, A+ utilizes direct connect if the PDA's have a wireless card. Roll data will be updated as it is entered, so changes can be viewed as they are entered regardless of which method was used to enter it.
First Class Web has been re-written to increase speed and better implement multi-user functionality, eg, more than one user modifying the same roll in A+ - Take Rolls, although the interface looks much the same.

To download the latest release of First Class (incorporating A+) and First Class Web (Version 670 of both), click on the following link, fill in the details and click "Submit".

Boronia Heights College - an A+ user making news!

A recent article about Boronia Heights College, published in the Knox Leader, 5th April 2005, highlighted the advantages of an electronic roll marking system in combating truancy. This school uses A+ for this purpose, and is pleased with the results so far. The article can be seen here:

Product development

The other issue that the article touched on, and which is in development in First Class and A+, is the facility to SMS parents/guardians concerning the absence of their children from school. This will eventually be extended to allow the sending of newsletters, bulletins etc. This facility is scheduled for release in Semester 2. This facility is provided, free of charge, with the upgrade of the program.

Did you know?

Any report that is displayed can be saved as a PDF file, an Excel spreadsheet, an RTF (Word) document or as HTML files. And the best part about it is it's really easy! Simply click on the "Save" button in the toolbar when the report is displayed, select the type of export you wish to do, give the exported file a path and name (First Class will add the extension .pdf, .xls etc) and click "Save". Use Windows Explorer to locate the file and open it.
