Did You Know?
Many of the First Class grid reports have Refresh as an option when you right-click on them. An example of where this feature could be used is when a student makes a request to change a subject.
Open the REPORTS>BLOCKING>GRID for the student's year level, with class sizes showing
The student can make their subject choices according to the possibilities presented by the grid
Make the necessary changes to the student's choices, and then manually change the student's allocations, saving after each step
Right-click on the display of the blocking grid and select REFRESH
The changes you made will be reflected in the class sizes displayed
Upcoming Features in First Class
There have been a number of great enhancements made to First Class that will be in the next release. These are currently being tested and will be available in the next week.
It is suggested that you upgrade to the new version during the holidays. In the meantime Daily Organisers should not prepare camps/excursions/absences in advance as they may need to be re-entered after you have upgraded.
It is now possible to collapse classes that are partly cancelled due to camps. If only some of the forms in a class are on a camp you can decide which classes will be cancelled and which classes will run.
A right click CLEAR ALL option has been added to Extras. This will remove all teachers or rooms from all of the Extras currently displayed in the list of Extras, saving you from having to remove each one individually.
On top of the recent enhancement of Extra Classes in release 403 you will also be able to cancel existing classes
Extras now prompts you to save your changes when changing dates
The Extras timetable has now been updated to show extra classes and cancelled classes
Some of the problems associated with planning ahead and then canceling those plans have been fixed. As an example, if on a future date you assign a teacher to an Extra for a form and that class is cancelled (due to a camp or for some other reason) the teacher is now released for that period to take an alternative Extra and their Extras history is amended appropriately.
Many of the Windows will now "remember" their previous state, i.e. they will open to the size and position of their last use
The FILE>SAVE AS command has been changed to function more like a standard Windows Save As command. A browser box now appears when SAVE AS is selected from the FILE menu in First Class. Also, the new database opens automatically. Saving the database as an Access97 database is now performed in the EXPORT menu.
You will be able to print Master faculty teacher and room timetables for distribution to staff
There is a new TEACHER FREE MATRIX report. This allows you to determine when two teachers have free periods in common.
The TEACHERS ON FILE report can be shown either with or without Emergency teachers. It can even show just Emergency teachers.
Emergency teachers now have their own branch on the printer options setup
There is now an option in the ADD ALLOCATIONS screen to delete all unused allocations
The TEACHER ALLOCATIONS report is now showing teacher allocations even if they are not on the timetable. As these allocations do not have a period their load is assumed to be 1.
TEACHER LOAD AMOUNTS can now be greater than 1. This applies to loads in period maintenance, extras and teacher extra duties.
The MARKBOOK EXPORT has been updated to remove duplicate entries

Looking for a map of Australia? Need to find accurate latitude and longitude?
Want to find the location of every nuclear explosion since 1945?
The Geoscience Australia website has all this and more. It is run by a government agency whose task is geosciences research and to provide geospatial (mapping) information. While much of the data available from the site is meant for those who need data for GIS (Geographic Information System) software, there are many other resources that are easily accessible to the general public.
One such resource is the Project Maps of Australia, which has several different representations of Australia each providing a unique view of the continent. Also available from this page are a Satellite Image Mosaic of Australia and
Make Your Own Map where you can zoom down to a point of your own choosing and print off that particular map.
One of the more educational areas on the site includes the section called Fabulous Facts about Australia, which is a compilation of interesting information gained from the map
data. Another interesting page is As The Cocky Flies, which allows you to find the distance by air between two major landmarks in Australia.
There is much more fascinating information contained on this site so I won't spoil the fun of finding it yourself. A highly valuable resource and somewhere you can look around for hours if you so desire.
