Electronic Roll Marking

Term 4 is a good time to install Electronic Roll Marking
In readiness for full deployment in 2006, the last quarter of 2005 sees many schools piloting the A+ Electronic Roll Marking (ERM) module of First Class. For more information on Electronic Roll Marking, call Gary Stoneham on 03 9690 5044 or 0438 188 132 and/or see the following page on our website:

Product Development

This section of the newsletter highlights selected items from the next release of First Class. Some of these have been mentioned in previous Newsletters, but are worth mentioning again. This release is a major one and will be available shortly.

A+ Reports A number of the reports have been consolidated as they performed the same function, but with minor changes. As an example, the one report will now allow you to select either a single date, or a range, in the one field.
The two Cases reports are now printed from the one selection screen, with radio buttons indicating which one you wish to print.
Year Level for Rollover will be used for reports as Year Level may have some years combined.
An “Explanation Letter” has been added to allow you to send a letter to parents requesting explanations for unexplained absences. This report can come directly from First Class, and can include a bar code, or can be merged with a Word Template and printed from there.
First Class An “Active For Roll” field has been added to the “Year Level for Rollover” and “Period” maintenance, thus allowing you to restrict the scope of the roll marking.
The “Frees” column in the “Available Teachers” screen will more accurately reflect the number of free periods the teacher has, decrementing as extras are given. Cancelled classes will increment the number.

Did You Know?

Software

First Class can perform an end-of-year rollover to give you a database that has students in their new groupings and will clear the following; blocking grids, student choices, timetable and extras history. From the "Tools" menu select "End of Year Rollover". Most of the procedure can be found in the help file at this point by pressing the F1 key on the keyboard.
However, there are some finer points that may be of use to some of you.
  • Most items can be deleted by year level.
  • Blocking grids can be updated.

The above points allow schools that run multi-year courses to keep some of the blocking data for the new year.

Support

We have highly qualified support analysts able to assist you in your SQL Server setup and database management.

For instance, if you have any problems setting up your database for A+ and/or First Class Web, you can call our support line on 1300 301 931 and ask for Max.
