The release 738 of First Class Web introduced a significant new feature for staff. Class and Form lists could now be viewed and printed directly from the school intranet. Staff no longer need access to the First Class "backend" administrative system as any web browser can now be used to produce professional class lists. These lists can be formatted with check boxes and shading. Groups of subject lists (for instance all Year 8 Art classes) can also be produced.

The class list feature complements the online roll marking features available to schools that use First Class Web and A+ – Human Edge's attendance system. In their latest versions these two products provide a powerful intranet solution to roll marking and attendance reporting. Staff can mark rolls using a web browser connected to the school curriculum network or with a PDA. Any enrolment additions and changes can be automatically reflected in the online timetables and class lists produced by First Class Web and the rolls produced by A+.

The release of A+ included in the version 750 of First Class provided powerful new individual and summary attendance reporting options. In addition Version 750 included an SMS notification system that can be configured to contact parents of absent students. Parents are notified of the absence and invited to respond to the message with an acknowledgement and explain the absence. This feature is highly configurable and can be used to notify all absences, or to only contact a select list based on "at risk" students.

A+ also includes a new component for generating and managing explanation letters. "Please explain" letters can be produced for absences based on a range of criteria and managed within the A+ system using barcodes. Returned letters can be scanned with a barcode reader and absences accounted for with just a few clicks of the mouse. This is a significant time saving feature for offices that need to process a large number of absence letters.

Version 765 has just been released, giving you a number of new A+ reports and features, and some added features to First Class Web.

	SMS messaging is available.
	An "Attendance Review" report, for year level co-ordinators to check student attendance in a familiar format, and an "“Attendance Alert" report, to determine students who miss certain subjects regularly, have been added.
	The "Attendance Rate" report has been modified slightly to give you more options for the display in the columns, and the "Reason Summary" has been completely overhauled with many more options, and it now encompasses the "Reason Summary By Period".

	Now has a "Reports" option. This allows you to print class and form lists, with most of the same options that are available in First Class.
	Allows Landscape printing for timetables.

Did You Know?

It is best to set up a new database for the year 2006. In order to avoid SQL database size problems, we are suggesting that schools using A+ should start each year with a new database. To do this… From the FILE menu select SQL SERVER and then SETUP. Make a change to the name of the database and click “Create”. Proceed from then as normal.
