Development of First Class continues with several new features due in the next release including:
photo class lists for First Class and First Class Web.
automatic version checking; First Class will let you know if there is a new version available so you can always get the latest features easily.
inbuilt A+ archiving and historical querying capability to keep your current database size manageable, provide data security and improve performance for reports.
new facility to print timetables by house grouping for those schools working with this administrative group.
automatic email messaging to teachers and admin staff for student subject enrolment changes and attendances.
An exciting new feature which will save countless hours in searching for menu options will be a new "home" screen interface. This will provide a flexible, intuitive and easy way for “novice” users of First Class to access many of the most used features and reports from a single screen.
In addition a significant new module for timetable modelling and financial planning is currently being considered. This module would include the ability to:
model the costs to schools for program implementation for the new school year.
monitor and report on program costs throughout the school year.
answer scenarios regarding possible program change within the school year.
report on "quality" of a program in terms of HR utilisation, student participation in the curriculum, class sizes and physical resource utilisation.
These tools could significantly improve a school’s ability to plan, evaluate and respond to program changes in "real time" – using the current data available to the school.

The Scheduled Absences feature of A+ can be used to quickly enter casual absences for the day?
Using the scheduled absences feature a list of students that are, for instance “Absent – Medical”, can be created for the day. As students and parents phone in with absence information, names can be added to the list. When you are ready for these absences to be recorded in the database, tick “Apply to marked classes” and press OK to have the schedule apply the absence reasons - including to any classes that have already been marked for the day.
You can create faculty groupings for staff and rooms?
These groupings can then be used to display timetables for staff and rooms. The timetables can be displayed in regular or transposed arrangements and are useful for finding common times for faculty staff to meet or to determine if speciality rooms are being fully utilised. These grouped timetables can be printed and also published to a school intranet as pdf’s or web pages.
Camps and excursions created with the extras package can be reported in the day summary and can automatically create approved absences for use in A+?
These camps and excursions are reported in the extras module using the “Day Summary” report. Any student absences created by the camps and excursions are automatically scheduled to appear in generated rolls. You should note that these absences will not appear in rolls that have already been generated – a roll regenerate will be required to capture these changes.
The find command (ctrl-F) can be used in many of the fields and screens in First Class?
You can search grids and some fields using this approach. Simply highlight the information you want searched by clicking in a drop box, grid or other field. Choose and a red box will surround the information to be searched. You then have several options for how you want to search including case and pattern matching.
