The latest version of First Class is Version 791. First Class Web is currently in release as Version 790.
There is also a new release of MSDE for users of A+ and/or FCWeb. Users who downloaded MSDE before 20/3/2006 should download and install this latest version.
Downloads are available from the Human Edge website.
Responses to the First Class online survey have proven very useful to our developers. Some wine has been forwarded to Jim Mallios of Granville Boys High School, Bill Langcake of Footscray City College, George Kennedy from Monterey Secondary College, Tony Carroll from Eaglehawk Secondary College, Tony Gravina from Australian International School Singapore, Bill Mackay of Southern Cross K-12 School, Gill Thorsen of Kyabram Secondary College, and Helen Benoy from Leongatha Secondary College.
We value the input of all our users and would like to provide one final opportunity to schools to respond to our First Class Financials development survey. And some wine is still available! Follow the link below to complete our online survey.

The long term direction of development for First Class and the related products A+, FC Web and Outcomes is now to develop an SQL "heart" to
the suite that synchronises the many functions of these products and makes many of the day to day tasks related to finding students,
printing timetables and classlists, marking attendance and writing achievement reports as seamless and integrated as possible.
The place of First Class in this arrangement is as a “backend” administrative interface and conduit to this SQL database.
Large schools will wish to make the most of this arrangement (particularly in order to take advantage of the feature integration across the First Class products)
while smaller schools may be content to work from a standalone First Class Access database.
In line with this direction, development of First Class continues with several new features due in the next release including:
photo classlists for First Class and First Class Web.
automatic version checking.
inbuilt A+ archiving and historical querying capability.
the facility to print timetables by house grouping.
targeted email messaging of various database changes like student subject enrolment changes and attendances to different users and groups.
a home screen that enables users to access the most used functions with First Class and A+.
The next major release of First Class incorporating these changes is early Term 3, 2006.
Semester 2 timetable development is upon us! For schools that need to make significant changes to blocked timetable structures for Semester 2, the hints below may be useful. Did you know:
It is a good idea to "Clean-up daughter blocks" before undertaking any Semester 2 timetable editing?
This will ensure any unnecessary daughter blocks are deleted and minimises any block editing you may need to do. To perform this operation, choose Tools / "Clean-up daughter blocks". Say yes to "are you sure" and proceed.
You can use the"Copy blocks" command to add Semester 2 blocks to the block maintenance screen?
This can be used to add new semester 2 blocks to the block maintenance screen for subsequent editing. You can choose which new blocks will be transferred. Note that these new copied blocks will not have period allocations and this work will need to be done in the Maintenance / Allocations screen.
The effect of the “Copy blocks” command will be to transfer the grid items to the block maintenance screen with grid item links and teacher names already completed. Associated forms will also be entered automatically into the block ownership section. Note that teachers names need to have been added in the Tools / Block generation screen for teacher names to transfer automatically.
To undertake a copy blocks operation, choose Tools / Copy Blocks, then enter “Edit” mode. Choose the blocks you want to copy in the tree and check whether you want year level prefixes to accompany the transfer. Choose copy and then OK the warning. After this operation you can use Maintenance / Allocations to add period allocations to the blocks and the Tools / Timetables to place these blocks onto the timetable. Now you just have to edit the rooms!
Changes to Semester 2 electives can also be achieved by pointing blocks to new grid items?
If your subjects and teachers will stay the same for Semester 2 electives,
then you can simply point the subject entries to new grid items in the block editing screen.
This is a simpler method than option 2 above. The advantage in doing this is that you do not need to make new allocations,
edit rooms or teachers. These details will stay the same and the new grid items will ensure that enrolments and classlists are correct.
Note that the teacher entered in the “block generation” screen should correspond to the teacher entered in the block in the "Maintenance / Blocks" screen
in order for classlists to print correctly. Also, you must edit the grid item for each class including all classes in daughter blocks.
To change timetable details using this method, go to the "Maintenance/blocks" screen.
Go into "edit" mode. Choose the block you wish to enter and open the tree using the "+" sign.
Click on the daughter block and then press the hover button that becomes available in the grid item field.
Choose the year level for the grid you want to use and then click on the new class that should be mapped to that subject entry. Repeat for each daughter block.
