A+ - Electronic Roll Marking (including SMS)
Due in the next release
There have been a number of new features that will make electronic roll marking even easier to use...
 | There is a battery indicator on the PDA that appears at the bottom of the A+ opening screen and on the “Route” main screen.
The picture above left shows the main A+ screen in normal mode and the battery indicator at the bottom. The picture on the right is the “Routes” main screen shown in “kiosk” mode. |
 |
In the “Summary”, the list of absent students (the bottom pane) has had a “Reason” column added and you can now sort the list by any column. |
 |
“Master”, “Teacher” or “Student” timetables selected in the A+ opening screen can also now be sorted by any column. |
 | The clash resolution and the “Daily Absences” report mentioned in the previous newsletter will be in the next version.
|
 |
Students in classes that have not been marked will be indicated with “unmarked” as opposed to “Present”. This will change when “Edit” is selected. This will make it easier to see whether a class on display has been marked. This applies to both the PDA screen and the “Take Rolls” screen in First Class Web. This will also be in the “Edit Rolls” screen in the A+ menu of First Class shortly. |
 |
The “reason” column in the roll edit screen on the PDA will resize to fit the absence reason code. |
You can use First Class Blocking to assist you in creating an exam timetable
Determining exam timetables is all about getting subjects running at the same time that don’t have students in common. First Class Blocking does this in a very effective way.
| 1. |
Create a copy of your database and use this for the remaining steps.
|
| 2. |
From the “Tools” menu, select “Block Generation”. |
| 3. |
Select the year level for whom you wish to create an exam timetable.
|
| 4. |
In “edit” mode, key a very large number into the “Avg. class size” field. This is simply to get all the numbers under “Classes” to 1. |
| 5. |
Create enough lines for the number of exam slots you have
|
| 6. |
Click “Generate”. |
A blocking grid should be created that has a reasonably small number of “clashes”, if any. These can be resolved in the usual ways each line will correspond to a “slot” on the exam timetable.
