Did You Know?
Many of the details of an extra can be changed on a period-by-period basis. With most of them, if you pass the mouse pointer over the field that contains the current detail, a "drop arrow" appears. If you click on this arrow, you can choose a new alternative from the list. The EXTRAS AMOUNT can be changed by simply highlighting the current number, for example 1, and typing a new number, for example 0.5.
Why would you change any of the details?
Type
First Class automatically detects what type of extra the current one should be when it is allocated. However, let’s say a teacher is under allotted and you are planning ahead into the next week and wish to use them for an under allotted class. If they have already taken their quota for the cycle then this extra will be designated as an Extra. You can change it to Under Allotted, which will temporarily put them into the negative for this type of extra. However, when they are reset at the start of the next cycle, the number should go back into the positive or at least to 0.
Amount
If you have given a person two extras in one period because they are in adjoining rooms, you may not wish to credit the second one as a full extra. You can change the amount for the second one to a fraction, or even 0.
Reason
A teacher may have been marked absent for the day because they were attending a meeting. They may then contact you part way through the day to say they are ill and going home. You can make them absent for illness for the remainder of the day.
Patch for Version 308 of First Class
It has been brought to our attention that some people are experiencing occasional difficulties changing the Room to “None” when editing a block with version 308 of First Class. Some people are also experiencing occasional errors when running the Class Lists report.
A patch has been produced to solve these difficulties and can be downloaded using the link below. Please note that this patch is strictly for schools running version 308 of First Class.
