We have come across a new virus that was reported in early March and has a very unique way of convincing people to activate it. The message is disguised as a Microsoft Security Update Alert and has an attachment that it claims is an update that will fix security issues with your software. In reality the attachment is a virus.
The email is addressed as if it has been sent by Microsoft and the text contained in the body of the message is very convincing. It goes into quite extensive detail regarding the security vulnerabilities that can be fixed and even has links to Microsoft's own website and quotes actual security bulletin numbers that describe these security flaws. Nevertheless, it is all a masquerade to trick the well-intentioned user into running the attachment which then proliferates the virus by forwarding the email to other users. The virus also installs a Trojan that can allow attackers remote access to your system. The virus' technical name is W32.Gibe@mm and more details can be obtained from Microsoft's website by using the following link:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/security/virus/alerts/gibe.asp
The important thing to remember is that Microsoft and all the virus protection software companies DO NOT send program updates via email. They may notify you by email but will not include any attachments or software updates. In general they will provide you a link to their website so you can download the updates, safe in the knowledge that they come from a reliable source.
How do I print form lists in First Class?
First Class does not include the printing of form lists at this stage, but we are working on a function for this for future releases. In the interim, here are some tricks you can use that will give the same result.
To create a form list you need to list all the students in a year level, showing the current forms in grid form. There are a couple of ways to do this…
Using the Student Maintenance list
 |
From the MAINTENANCE menu select STUDENT>EDIT
| |
 |
Select the desired year level
| |
 |
From the FILE menu select EXPORT>GRIDS TO EXCEL
| |
Using the Block Generator
 |
From the TOOLS menu select BLOCK GENERATION
| |
 |
Select any year level
| |
 |
Double click in the status bar at the bottom of the generation screen, where it shows "nn students". A grid of the count in each year will appear.
| |
 |
Drill down (double-click) on the desired year level
| |
 |
Right-click anywhere in the list that appears and select VIEW IN EXCEL
| |
Using the report
 |
From the REPORTS menu select STUDENT>COUNT IN YEAR
| |
 |
Drill down (double-click) on the desired year level
| |
 |
Right-click anywhere in the list that appears and select VIEW IN EXCEL
| |
Each of these methods will give you the list in Excel. You can then sort the list by form and split it into separate lists as required.
