Melbourne Training Course
Many of you will recall that demand for First Class training was very high in the second half of last year, with the majority of our courses booking out very quickly. With this in mind, it is a great idea to come to one of our early training courses for the year. After all, the sooner you receive First Class training, the sooner you can implement your knowledge to create even better timetables!
Our first training course for 2003 has been scheduled as follows:
Introduction to First Class
Tuesday 11 February 2003
The introductory course provides a great overview of the software as well as tips for using shortcuts and other useful features.
The cost of the course is $280 per person (ex. GST) for schools on Service & Support, or $350 per person (ex. GST) for schools not on Service & Support. Discounts apply for multiple bookings, please see our website for further details.

Our instructors want to make sure that you get as much as possible out of your day and part of this is ensuring that we spend as much time as necessary answering your queries!
If you would like to reserve a place in this course please contact us using the link below or call 1300 550 765, we still have plenty of places available.

Did You Know?
First Class now uses the extension .fdb for its files. It is a good idea to change the extension (which currently may be .mdb), for all First Class data files (not ones saved to be opened by Access), to this extension.
To do this:
Open WINDOWS EXPLORER
Locate the folder where your First Class data files are held
The names and extensions of files can be changed in one of two ways. Either:
Use your mouse to LEFT CLICK once on the file to highlight it
Pause for a moment and then LEFT CLICK again. The file name should now be surrounded by a box.
Overtype the text in the box (including the file extension) to change it
Or:
Use your mouse to RIGHT CLICK on the Windows Explorer FILE menu
Either right-click on the file and select RENAME, or left-click on the file and select RENAME from the Explorer FILE menu
The file name should now be surrounded by a box
Overtype the text in the box (including the file extension) to change it
Repeat for all other First Class databases.
Website of the Week
www.bom.gov.au
The Bureau of Meteorology website is a rich source of information about our weather. It actually contains so much information that it can be difficult to know where to begin!
The website provides the latest satellite and radar images of Australia which can be viewed for individual states and territories to observe rainfall, fronts and pressure systems.
The "Weather Charts" link on the home page takes you to a page with further links to information about Weather Maps and Weather charts. This information helps to explain what we are looking at when we see charts and maps on the evening news and in the daily papers.
The Monthly Feature on the website is currently "Indigenous Weather Knowledge" and is an interesting source of information about how indigenous Australians developed their own seasonal calendars depending on the region of Australia in which they lived. You are also able to view past features from the "Previous" section of the Monthly Features.
There is a wealth of educational material provided on the website, including lesson plans and ideas for school projects as well as links to other meteorological resources and publications.
Quote of the Week
"Failure is the opportunity to begin again more intelligently."
Henry Ford
