We understand that a handy, professional and immediate support centre is one of the indispensable services that Human Edge provides. While proud of our current system, we are always looking at ways to improve. With this in mind we would like to advise you of some upcoming changes:

An expanded phone system and new support number that will cover not only SAS2000 and Pay2k, but also include our timetabling package First Class. The new system will have a nationwide number which will make it cheaper for regional and interstate users to access Service & Support.

A new website that will include back issues of previous newsletters, release notes, product information and other useful support tools.

|
A User forum is also included in the new website allowing our Service & Support subscribers to post questions (and answers!), as well as share information about how they get the best out of the software.

We are pleased to announce that two new First Class training courses have been scheduled for the large number of First Class users in Port Macquarie and its surrounding areas. The courses will be held at St Paul's High School, which is located on Ocean Drive in Port Macquarie.

This introductory course provides a great overview of the software as well as tips for using shortcuts and other useful features.
The cost of the course is $245 per person (ex. GST) for schools on Service & Support, or $345 per person (ex. GST) for schools that are not on Service & Support. A light lunch will be supplied and you will also receive a copy of the First Class training manual for you to keep.
On completion of the course you will know how to:

Import data into First Class from First Class 6 and in the form of text files

Export data from First Class to other programs
|
|
Create and enter data into databases
|
|
Create and enter data into a grid
|
|
Resolve clashes
|
|
Allocate students to classes
|
|
Move students between classes
|

Allocate extras
|

Generate and edit a timetable
|
The course commences at 9.00 am and concludes at approximately 4.00 pm. As our training courses are a forum for you to have your questions about the software dealt with, we remain flexible about the finishing time. Our instructors want to make sure that you get as much as possible out of your day and part of this is ensuring that we spend as much time as necessary answering your queries!

How do I reduce Student Clashes?
Here are a couple of hints to reduce student clashes when you have performed trial swaps with all the subjects listed as clashing and none give you a better set of clashes than you currently have.
If the clashes do not occur in isolation, and clashing subjects always clash with at least one other subject, here's what you do. . .

Bring up the list of clashing students in the usual way

Double-click on each clashing student one by one, noting which subject(s) each clashing subject clashes with
|
|
Return to the blocking grid and perform trial swaps with those subjects
|
A second method uses the fact that a grid with identical numbers of clashes may lead to different solutions. If any of the trial swaps gave the same number of clashes that you currently have, perform that swap. It is possible that more clashes may be able to be cleared from the new situation.
