  New Human Edge Website

Our new web site is a step closer to fruition. We are in the final stages of setting up the infrastructure to host our own website and are counting down the days to when we can launch our new image.

By hosting our own website we will be able to offer all schools a wider range of services, including downloads, product information and support resources, even user-group forums. If you have a question about one of our products the website will be the place to go!

Along with the website we will be installing personalised email addresses for all staff members, along with product support email addresses to ensure your requests reach the right person. The new website and email addresses will be published in an upcoming edition of this newsletter so stay tuned.

  Another First for First Class

Whilst off shore users are not new to First Class, Robert Bakker is soon heading to China to conduct the first overseas onsite training for First Class.

The Shanghai Yew Chung International School, an existing First Class user has requested Rob spend two days in Shanghai. The visit will encompass refresher training for the Shanghai campus and training for new First Class sites at Yew Chung Schools in Beijing and Hong Kong.

Yew Chung International Schools were initially established in 1993 to meet the international needs of the expatriate community in China.

  How Do I?

How do I remember the most important Help topics?

Depending on which functions you use in First Class, you may want to be able to go to your most used topics in the Help file quickly. To do this:

Open HELP
Open a topic that you refer to often
From the HELP PROGRAM MENU select BOOKMARK>DEFINE
The program will automatically use the topic name to define the bookmark. This can be overwritten if you would prefer to assign your own topic name.
Click OK
In future, when you need to open this topic, simply select it from the BOOKMARK MENU

Bookmarks can also be deleted using the BOOKMARK>DEFINE menu.

How do I copy the Blocking Grid directly as Timetable Blocks?

In preparation for performing this function, you need to have completed the following steps. See the Help file for details of how to complete each step (the relevant Help file topics are included in brackets after each step).

Enter Students' choices (Entering Student choices)
Create a Blocking Grid, clash-free if possible (Creating a new grid)
Allocate Students to their classes and fixed them (Allocating Students to their classes)
Assign Teachers to their classes on the grid (Amending a single cell - Assign Teacher)

Once these steps have been completed you can copy the Blocking Grid as follows:

Go to TOOLS>COPY BLOCKS
You can use the year level name to prefix the block names and/or delete all or part of the timetable
Click COPY
Go to MAINTENANCE>ALLOCATIONS. The blocks should be there automatically.

  Website of the Week

www.infochoice.com.au

With Australian interest rates set to rise again, this site could prove to be quite handy!

The InfoChoice website provides independent information about the banking, investments, telecommunications, insurance and travel sectors. The site is run by Info Choice Limited, which does not endorse any provider, product or service. They aim to "provide information on a wide range of goods and services and present them in an objective way which allows consumers to make easy, meaningful comparisons and informed choices."

The site has a function that allows you to search for the best home loan, mobile phone plan or online share broker. You can also search for information about telephone call rates (local and international), credit cards, personal loans, term deposits, internet banking, etc.

Another interesting feature is the "Where do I Start" section. This provides advice on how to go about borrowing for your first home, choosing a mobile phone, finding the best home phone plan, buying shares online and borrowing to invest.
