  How Do I?

How do I complete the Fringe Benefits Tax Year?

The Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) Year closed on the 31 March 2003. For those of you using Pay2k to record and calculate your FBT payments to Staff, you will need to close off the FBT End of Year in Pay2k before processing your first pay for April.

To close the FBT Year in Pay2k:

Go to END PERIOD>FBT END OF YEAR ROLLOVER
The FBT End of Year rollover copies the current FBT figures, which have been accruing since last April, from the POST APRIL FBT field to the PRE APRIL FBT FIELD. It then clears the post April figures ready for the start of a new FBT year.
The PRE APRIL FBT figure is used on the current financial year payment summaries (group certificates) while the POST APRIL FBT begins to accrue the FBT for the next financial year

For those of you who have your FBT calculated by an external body this process is not required. You will enter the FBT figure supplied to you by the external body in June into each employee's pre April FBT figure using the following method:

Go to MAINTENANCE>EMPLOYEE DETAILS
Find the first employee who has FBT figures to enter
Select the HISTORICAL tab
Enter the FBT figure supplied to you. If you have been supplied with the 'grossed up' value, make sure the FBT rate in MAINTENANCE>TAX CONSTANTS is set to 1 otherwise Pay2K will gross up the value again.

Kids spend a lot of time surfing the internet and chatting online. After all, the internet is a source of entertainment as much as it is an educational tool.

With the school holidays upon us, kids are probably going to spend more time than usual online. The Cybersmart Kids site is produced by the Australian Broadcasting authority and has useful tips for kids, teachers and parents to help protect them from the potential risks associated with surfing the worldwide web.

There is a handy list of Cybersmart Rules that can be printed and kept near the computer so that kids can refer to them as necessary. Once kids have read the rules ask them to take the Cybersmart Quiz. It will really help to reinforce each rule.

The links to Kids Coolsites are great and worth bookmarking. They range from fun entertainment and activity sites to help sites for homework and school projects. There are also links to sites that provide advice and assistance for their health and wellbeing.

The tips and links in the Cybersmart Parents section will help to make you aware of the risks faced by kids using the internet and give advice about how you can minimise these risks.

Safe and happy surfing!
