We have come across a new virus that was reported in early March and has a very unique way of convincing people to activate it. The message is disguised as a Microsoft Security Update Alert and has an attachment that it claims is an update that will fix security issues with your software. In reality the attachment is a virus.
The email is addressed as if it has been sent by Microsoft and the text contained in the body of the message is very convincing. It goes into quite extensive detail regarding the security vulnerabilities that can be fixed and even has links to Microsoft's own website and quotes actual security bulletin numbers that describe these security flaws. Nevertheless, it is all a masquerade to trick the well-intentioned user into running the attachment which then proliferates the virus by forwarding the email to other users. The virus also installs a Trojan that can allow attackers remote access to your system. The virus' technical name is W32.Gibe@mm and more details can be obtained from Microsoft's website by using the following link:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/security/virus/alerts/gibe.asp
The important thing to remember is that Microsoft and all the virus protection software companies DO NOT send program updates via email. They may notify you by email but will not include any attachments or software updates. In general they will provide you a link to their website so you can download the updates, safe in the knowledge that they come from a reliable source.
How do I close off the Fringe Benefits Tax Year in Pay2k?
 |
Go to END PERIOD>FBT END OF YEAR ROLLOVER
| |
 |
The FBT end of year roll over copies the current FBT figures from the POST APRIL FBT field, which has been accruing since last April, to the PRE APRIL FBT field. It then clears the post April figures ready for the start of a new FBT year
| |
 |
The pre April figure is used on the current financial year payment summaries (group certificates) while the post April figure begins to accrue the FBT for the next financial year.
| |
For those of you who have your FBT calculated by an external body this process is not required. You will enter the FBT figure supplied to you in June by the external body into each employee's pre April FBT figure using the following method:
 |
Go to MAINTENANCE>EMPLOYEE DETAILS
| |
 |
Find the first employee who has FBT figures to enter
| |
 |
Select the HISTORICAL tab
| |
 |
Enter the FBT figure supplied to you. If you have been supplied with the 'grossed up' value, make sure the FBT rate in MAINTENANCE>TAX CONSTANTS is set to 1 otherwise Pay2K will gross up the value again.
