How do I set up security on Pay2k?
In Pay2k, the level of access that different people at the school have to the information stored in the software can be restricted. By setting up the security in Pay2k you can decide who will have access to certain areas of Pay2k and who will not. As part of setting up the security everyone who logs into Pay2k will need to be issued with a login name and password.
For example:
You may want to enable certain members of staff to be able to print off some of the reports in Pay2k but prevent them from processing a pay run.
You can do this by setting up the security in Pay2k.
The steps to setting up security are:
Work out the number of security groups you require. To do this look at the jobs of the staff that will have access to Pay2k and work out the level of access each job requires.
If you have 5 people who require the same level of access then instead of setting a group up for each of the 5 you would set up one group and link the 5 people to it.
Go to FILE>SECURITY
On the top left of the form is an area called GROUP. Enter the names for the different access groups in this area using the NEW GROUP button.
Set up the security that is appropriate for each of the Groups by:
Highlighting the group's name on the top left side of the form
Going to the ACCESS AREA (on the top right side of the form)
Going through each of the areas listed and giving each group access to each of the appropriate areas
Now you need to set up a login and password for each person that is using Pay2k and link them to the appropriate access level.
Go to the area called ALL USERS on the bottom left side of the form
Enter all staff that will need to use Pay2k using the NEW USER button
Enter the name, login name and password for each person
On the top left corner of the form, highlight the ACCESS GROUP that you want to link the login to
On the bottom left of the form, highlight the staff member's name and click on the right arrow button (>>) to put a copy of this name into the USERS IN THE SELECTED GROUP area on the bottom right of the form. This action makes the staff member a part of the selected group.
Repeat this process until all the listed staff members are assigned to a group

This website was featured in The Age newspaper and, as we thought it was such a great idea, we wanted to let you all know about it here!
Book Crossing was established by Ron Hornbaker who was inspired by sites such as Where's George? (a site that tracks US currency according to serial number) and PhotoTag.org (a site that releases disposable cameras, displays pictures taken with them and tracks their progress).
The concept is simple and fun. Basically all you need to do to participate is read a good book, register the book and your comments about it on the website and then release it! When you register your book you will be given a unique BCID code to write in it before you release it. This code is used to track your book. You can release the book by giving it to a friend, donating it to charity or simply leaving it in a public place such as a café or on a park bench for someone else to find. Each time someone finds your book and posts their comments on the website you will receive an email so that you can track how many people have read your book and how far it has travelled.
The site claims that many authors and publishers support Book Crossing as a lot of visitors to the website purchase books based on the reviews they have read there. The site is about promoting books and good karma rather than saving people money!
So if you would like to get that warm fuzzy feeling that comes from sharing something with others why not release a book today and see where it goes...
