On 1st October 2002 we introduced a new central support number for all software packages and the great news is you can call from anywhere in Australia for the cost of a local call. If you require support for First Class, SAS2000 or Pay2K you can now call the following number:
1300 301 931
The Support Centre is available from 8:00am to 5:00pm Monday to Friday. The old support numbers will remain active for a short time only, so please ensure you update your records and keep this new number handy.
Note: The 1300 number is not available from mobile phones. If you are calling from a mobile you need to call (03) 9690 5004. Standard carrier rates will apply.
"I not only use all the brains I have, but all I can borrow"
Woodrow Wilson, US President
Based on this we're sure if Woodrow Wilson was alive today he would be an active participant in web based user forums. User forums are a great way of sharing in the collective knowledge of the wider community. Forum users not only post messages but can also reply to other users' queries. Why not share your knowledge with other users of the software? Maybe you have discovered a clever use for the software and think it's worth sharing, or you just need an opinion on the best way to set up a new feature. You can even post general support questions!
Recently we introduced user forums on our new website and would encourage all our software users to register and take advantage of the experience and knowledge of the entire software user base. While our support staff will regularly monitor the forums to answer queries, we would also encourage everyone to contribute. The power of a user forum is in the sharing of experience and information.
User Forum Home Page
Our forum is open to everyone, and you may view all postings without being a registered forum user. If you would like to contribute or post a query you first need to register your details by using the following link:

Here's an interesting news story that should act as a warning to all payroll officers. A school teacher in the US was recently paid $US7.9 Million dollars for just 18 minutes work. A typing error meant that an employee number was accidentally entered into an hours worked field, resulting in a hefty pay day for the teacher concerned, and we're sure a few anxious days for the school while the money was recovered.
You can read the full story on The Age website

The moral of the story is always check your payroll figures before running a Payroll Update in Pay2K! The easiest way to do this is to go to REPORTS MENU>PAYROLL, select CURRENT PAY and print the report. Check the net pay figures for all employees and make sure the total net pay is consistent with your standard payroll amount.

How do I record HECS for an Employee?
When you enter an employee record into Pay2k in MAINTENANCE>EMPLOYEE DETAILS, you will notice that there is a tick box on the TAXATION tab of the record that is used to indicate that the employee has a HECS debt.
The bottom line of the HISTORICAL tab contains the HECS information for each employee.
It records:
The full amount of the HECS Debt
The amount of HECS that has been paid
The last amount that was deducted for HECS
HECS collected for the month to date
HECS collected for the Year to Date
When recording a new employee in Pay2k you can enter the HECS debt amounts in this area.
When a current pay is processed for an employee with the HECS Debt box checked on their record, Pay2k will check the employee's gross pay against the HECS tax table to determine how much needs to be withheld for HECS. When the pay run is updated the amounts for the last HECS deduction and the HECS collected for the Month to Date & Year to Date will be updated on the employee's record.
You can get a report on the HECS information for employees under END PERIOD>HECS DEDUCTION REPORT. The report can be sorted in Employee Code, Last Name or Department order and lists the employee and the Last, Month to Date, Year to Date, Total Paid and Total Debt amounts for that employee's HECS.
The HECS tax tables are entered into Pay2k under MAINTENANCE>TAX CONSTANTS.
Select HECS DEDUCTION RATES from the column on the left side
The HECS rates will be displayed in the middle columns of the form
To update the HECS rates, click on the EDIT button on the tool bar
The last HECS rate change was on the 1 July 2002. These rates are listed below.

www.triv.net
Do you think you might be a good candidate for "Who Wants to be a Millionaire"?
This website provides you with the opportunity to find out! Each quiz on the site has 15 questions, ranging from easy to extremely difficult, similar to the TV show. You are also given some familiar lifelines; ask a friend, 50/50, ask the audience. Unfortunately no money can be won, this is just for fun!
The quiz menu lists quizzes grouped by the date they were created and also by category. You can even submit your own quiz.
The site also features a Weird Trivia section that provides some unusual, and sometimes macabre, pieces of information. For example, did you know that Italian mathematician Geronimo Cardano, famous for his accurate horoscope predictions predicted his own death in 1576, even down to the exact hour. When the time came he was still alive and well so he killed himself rather than be proven wrong!
"There were never in the world two opinions alike, any more than two hairs or two grains. Their most universal quality is diversity."
Michel de Montaigne (1533-1592), French essayist
