How do I process the Bulk Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) Payment?

If students attending the school are eligible for the Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) the school will receive a cheque from the Government that has to be allocated to the school fees for several families.

NOTE: This method of entering the EMA to the families supersedes the method listed in the SAS2000 Tips and Tricks Manual.

Entering the bulk EMA payment is a 2 step process.

Step 1
Put the Government cheque into the Bank Account:

Select RECEIPTS>RECEIPTS
Click on the SUNDRY BUTTON in the top left corner of the receipt
Make sure ADD is selected
Enter the details for the EMA cheque on the RECEIPT TAB
Click on the SUNDRY INCOME TAB and allocate the payment to the appropriate GL account code for Education Maintenance Allowance

Step 2
Allocate the EMA to the families:

This method of entering the EMA information to the families allows the EMA to be reported on the School Fee Reconciliation and the Tuition Fee Reconciliation Reports.

Select FEES>CREDITS
Select the Fee Paying Contact for the student(s) that are to receive an EMA amount. The fee payer can be selected by Contact name or by Student Name
Select the Credit Type (EMA)
Check that the date is correct
In the COMMENT area enter a note to indicate that the entry is an EMA. Note a comment should always be entered, as this prints on the statement to inform the fee payer what the credit relates to.
To apply the EMA to the Fee payers account you can either:
Enter the EMA amount in the AMOUNT field on the DETAILS tab and let SAS2000 allocate the amount to the oldest bill first
Or
Go to the MATCHED tab and enter the EMA amount against the appropriate bill item(s) it is to pay. SAS2000 will total the amount that has been matched off and put this value into the AMOUNT field on the DETAILS tab
Set the POST NOW and PRINT REPORT options to your preference (options located in bottom left hand corner on the credit form). If you choose not to POST NOW you will need to BATCH POST the EMA Credits later.
Select SAVE

Although often put down as the cause of students not doing any homework, TV can be useful in the classroom if you know what programs to watch. ABC TV is well known for showing educational programs on weekday mornings during school terms and the ABC Schools Television website is a great resource for planning lessons that incoporate visual aides.

The website not only has schedules of educational programming - from one day to six months in advance - it also allows you to search by subject, age range (primary to secondary), and program title.

If you are looking for support materials for developing lessons based on these programs, then the teacher resources section that provides links to the websites for the shows will be extremely useful.

Finally, there are also contact details if you wish to correspond with the network about any of the programs listed or to order a video of one of the programs.

An essential resource if you plan lessons using programs screened on ABC TV.
