We have come across a new virus that was reported in early March and has a very unique way of convincing people to activate it. The message is disguised as a Microsoft Security Update Alert and has an attachment that it claims is an update that will fix security issues with your software. In reality the attachment is a virus.
The email is addressed as if it has been sent by Microsoft and the text contained in the body of the message is very convincing. It goes into quite extensive detail regarding the security vulnerabilities that can be fixed and even has links to Microsoft's own website and quotes actual security bulletin numbers that describe these security flaws. Nevertheless, it is all a masquerade to trick the well-intentioned user into running the attachment which then proliferates the virus by forwarding the email to other users. The virus also installs a Trojan that can allow attackers remote access to your system. The virus' technical name is W32.Gibe@mm and more details can be obtained from Microsoft's website by using the following link:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/security/virus/alerts/gibe.asp
The important thing to remember is that Microsoft and all the virus protection software companies DO NOT send program updates via email. They may notify you by email but will not include any attachments or software updates. In general they will provide you a link to their website so you can download the updates, safe in the knowledge that they come from a reliable source.
How do I link all the school photos into SAS2000 without going to each individual student’s record?
Provided the file name for each of the photos is the student's code number, the photos on all student records can be updated together.
 |
Go to MAINTENANCE>SETUP>PREFERENCES 2 tab to set up SAS2000 to use the student number as the filename for photos
| |
 |
Tick the box STUDENT PHOTOS USE STUDENT NUMBER FORMAT
| |
 |
In the field called FOLDER specify the folder that the student photos are stored in. To do this, click on the grey box with 3 dots in it at the end of the field and browse to find the folder
| |
 |
SAVE this information and EXIT this form
| |
 |
Go to PEOPLE>STUDENTS
| |
 |
With a blank student form in view mode, click on FIND to call up all student records
| |
 |
Click on EDIT and right click on the photo, select GLOBAL CHANGE. This will link all the students to their photos.

How do I remove the time component on dates that are exported from SAS2000?
When the date is exported from SAS2000 as an Excel file, it is set as text with the time being part of the field. When the file is opened in Excel the date field cannot be formatted to remove the time component from the date.
The easiest way to remove the time component from the date is to export the file from SAS2000 as type CSV or CSV with Headers. When you open this file up in Excel you can then use the Cell Format function to reformat the date to remove the time component. In the following example we will assume the date field is in column B.
 |
Highlight the whole of the column B and from the Menu Bar select FORMAT>CELLS
| |
 |
On the NUMBER tab select DATE in the category area, choose the date layout you require and click OK
| |
 |
Column B will now have the date displayed in the format you require
| |
If the file has already been exported as an Excel spreadsheet you can use a formula in Excel to strip the time component from the date to get the desired format. The following example assumes the date field is in column D, the first row of data is on row 2 and column F is an empty column that we will use to display the date in the correct format.
 |
In Cell F2 key in the following formula:
=DATEVALUE(D2)
This will display a number in the cell that represents the date.
| |
 |
Select the F2 Cell again and you will notice that in the bottom right hand corner of the cell the border will have a tiny square. Double click on this tiny square and Excel will automatically copy the above formula to all the remaining cells in the column.
| |
 |
Now highlight the whole column and from the Menu Bar select FORMAT>CELLS
| |
 |
On the NUMBER tab select DATE in the category area, choose the date layout you require and click OK
| |
 |
Column F will now have the date displayed in the format you require
