Have you got the Download Blues?

Have you ever been downloading a file from the internet, only to have it fail after 95% completion? A number of schools have recently reported drop outs while downloading files, including updates of First Class 2000, SAS2000 & Pay2K from our website. While there are numerous causes for this (which we won’t try to cover here) there are ways to improve your chances of successfully downloading files.

When you rely solely on your Internet Browser to download, drop outs can be very frustrating, as you need to start your download all over again. With big files and slow internet connections this can mean valuable time lost. One utility you may wish to try is Download Accelerator Plus (DAP) which can not only resume interrupted downloads, but also minimises download time by using multiple connections to the download site making better use of your available bandwidth. Once installed DAP sits on your task bar (and also as a toolbar on your Internet Browser) and monitors all downloads. If the website allows, DAP it will take over the download duties and you’ll get a faster more reliable download, with less stress!

Like many utilities on the web, DAP comes in a basic free version, although you will be subjected to advertising banners (a small price to pay for the benefit). The software also tracks information regarding your usage of the program so read the ‘Terms and Conditions of Use’ that appear during installation carefully before proceeding. If you prefer not to receive advertising material you can purchase the premium version online, which removes advertising banners and provides a few extra features.

To download, purchase or get more information, visit the http://www.speedbit.com website.

Note: For those of you on networks, check with your network administrator to ensure your network environment is suitable for using DAP.

  How Do I?

How do I quickly assign students to their subjects?

Every year or term students may change the subjects that they are studying. If you are billing the students based on the subjects they are studying you will need to update the subjects information on the student's record. The quickest way to update the subjects information is to use the Subjects Quick Selection area in SAS2000.

Go to PEOPLE>SUBJECTS QUICK SELECTION
From the SUBJECT area select the subject you are allocating students to
On the right side of the screen will be the list of students who are currently taking the subject

To remove selected students from the subject:

Highlight their name and click on the DELETE button

To remove all students from the subject:

Click on the DELETE ALL button

To add students to the subject, follow these steps:

On the left side of the form you will see a tree view listing Class, Forms and Year
Click on the PLUS sign to the left of the option. This will expand the tree to display the groups under the heading.
To list the students individually, click on the PLUS sign to the left of the group.

To allocate all students in a group to a subject:

Drag the group name from the left side of the form to the right

To allocate individual student to a subject:

Drag the student's name from the left side of the form to the right

Having allocated the students to the first subject you can now move on to allocate the students to other subjects. If the same group of students who do one subject also all do another subject you can copy the list of students across. We will use the following scenario to explain this process:

All the students who study English 1 also study Maths B
The students who study ENGLISH 1 have all been allocated to it
With the ENGLISH 1 subject selected click on COPY
Go to SUBJECT MATHS B and click on PASTE
All the students that were on the ENGLISH 1 list will be added to the MATHS B list

Note any students that were listed as doing Maths B before the new group of students was added will also be included on the list.
