  1800 Discontinued

The Human Edge Support Centre 1800 number has recently been replaced with a new Australia wide number, 1300 301 931, that provides support for all of our software packages. Please note that the 1800 number will soon be discontinued, so please update your records and keep this new number in a handy position, to ensure you continue to get access to the Support Centre.

  How Do I?

How do I prepare for the student year end?
Preparation for the student year end can start as soon as you know what classes the students are going to be in next year.

If the class names are changing for next year:

Go to MAINTENANCE>USER CODES
Expand the yellow SCHOOL folder
Select CLASSES
ADD the new class names to the list of classes
Remember to leave the current class names in the list as the students are still part of these class groups

Once you have set up the class names you need to select the year you are doing the preparation for.

Go to MAINTENANCE>END OF YEAR ROLLOVER
In the NEXT YEAR drop down select the year you are doing the preparation work for.
For example:
Currently it is the 2002 school year so preparation will be happening for the 2003 school year. In the NEXT YEAR drop down you will need to select 2003.

You are now ready to put students into their classes for next year.

Click on the RUN button for PREPARE NEXT YEARS CLASSES

The PREPARE NEXT YEARS CLASSES form has 2 panels which list the class names. The left panel called CURRENT CLASSES shows the classes with the details of the class the students are currently in. The right panel called NEXT YEAR CLASSES lists all the class names.

If a whole class group is moving together to a class for next year:

Click on the class name on the left side of the form
Keeping the mouse button pressed down drag the whole class to the class they will be going to on the right side of the form
This will move all the students in that class to the class you have selected for next year

To move individual students:

Expand the class on the left side of the form by double clicking on the class name. This will enable you to see each individual student.
Click on the student's name and, keeping the mouse button pressed down, drag them from the left side of the form to the class they will be in next year on the right side of the form

If a student has been put into the incorrect class on the right side of the form:

Click on the student's name to highlight it
Click on the REMOVE button at the bottom of the form
This will put the student back into their current class on the left side of the form

This class preparation work can be done over several days or weeks. The new classes will not be assigned to the students until the UPDATE STUDENTS TO NEXT YEARS CLASSES option is run.

Refer to the Tips & Tricks document 'Student Year End Procedure' for more details.

  Website of the Week

www.choice.com.au

Many of you may have heard of Choice magazine, published by the Australian Consumers Association, a non-profit organization that provides information about the various products we use from day to day.

The Choice website is basically an online version of the magazine but has the advantage of being “up to the minute” as well as having a series of articles from previous issues. You can use the site to find information about which products are the best value for money, read about consumer alerts and the latest scams to watch out for, and also find out important information about product recalls using a link to the Australian government website.

You can make good use of the information available to the general public as many reports can be viewed by all visitors to the website. Membership (which costs $13 a quarter) does have some advantages though, as it will give you access to additional services that can save you money. For example, a monthly newsletter will provide product recommendations and the Choice Shopper service will source the best possible price if you wish to purchase an electrical appliance, camera, car or computer. You may in fact find that you save many times your quarterly membership fee!

Regardless of whether you decide to become a Choice member, the reports and articles featured on their website can help you to make more informed decisions about the products you purchase.
