  Human Edge Support Centre

On 1st October 2002 we introduced a new central support number for all software packages and the great news is you can call from anywhere in Australia for the cost of a local call. If you require support for First Class, SAS2000 or Pay2K you can now call the following number:

The Support Centre is available from 8:00am to 5:00pm Monday to Friday. The old support numbers will remain active for a short time only, so please ensure you update your records and keep this new number handy.

Note: The 1300 number is not available from mobile phones. If you are calling from a mobile you need to call (03) 9690 5004. Standard carrier rates will apply.

"I not only use all the brains I have, but all I can borrow"
Woodrow Wilson, US President

Based on this we're sure if Woodrow Wilson was alive today he would be an active participant in web based user forums. User forums are a great way of sharing in the collective knowledge of the wider community. Forum users not only post messages but can also reply to other users' queries. Why not share your knowledge with other users of the software? Maybe you have discovered a clever use for the software and think it's worth sharing, or you just need an opinion on the best way to set up a new feature. You can even post general support questions!

Recently we introduced user forums on our new website and would encourage all our software users to register and take advantage of the experience and knowledge of the entire software user base. While our support staff will regularly monitor the forums to answer queries, we would also encourage everyone to contribute. The power of a user forum is in the sharing of experience and information.

User Forum Home Page

Our forum is open to everyone, and you may view all postings without being a registered forum user. If you would like to contribute or post a query you first need to register your details by using the following link:

  How Do I?

How do I set up the Student Photos?

An important step in the set up for Student photos begins when you organise to get the photos produced. You need to request a CD of the students' photos from your photographer and specify the following information so that the photos on the CD are in the most appropriate format for use with SAS2000.

Photo Specifications for Electronic Pictures

Photo Format
Bitmapped (BMP)
Photo Size
Ratio of 1.55 height to 1 in width.
If the ratio of height to width is correct the photos will display correctly.
File Names
It is recommended that you use the Student Number as the file name.
If Student Numbers are used for the photo file names then you can link all students to their photo in one operation.
Should you use the student's name as the file name for the photo then you will need to link students to their photos individually.

While you can link SAS2000 to look directly at a CD for the photos, they will only be available while the photo CD is in the CD drive of the machine. We recommend copying the photos to a folder on the hard disk of the server if you are networked or your local PC if you are not on a network. This means the photo files will be available to SAS2000 whenever the machine is on.

The total length of the path to the photos plus the photos' file name can only be up to 50 characters in length. So keep the path to where the photos are stored fairly short.

For Example:

Your student photos for 2002 may be stored in a folder like
C:\Photo 2002

Setup of Student Photos in SAS2000

Go to MAINTENANCE>SETUP>PREFERENCES (2)

The STUDENT PHOTO area, at the bottom left of the form, lets you specify:

If the Student photos use the Student Number as their filename
The location where the photos are stored

The photos are not stored as part of the SAS2000 database, so by completing this information you are telling SAS2000 where they are kept so SAS2000 can access them.

Photo Ratio Adjustments

Should the photos you have not be in a 1.55:1 ratio you can adjust the display area of the photo on the Student screen so that the photos are not distorted. You can do this using the PHOTO RATIO area on the top right of the form.

Double click on the PHOTO RATIO box to browse and select a student's photo. The bar at the bottom of the photo area allows you to adjust the ratio of height to width for the photo display on the student's record.
Move the bar to the left to reduce the width of the display area
Move the bar to the right to reduce the height of the display area

Note:
An adjustment to the photo ratio changes the display area of the photo and therefore will adjust the way all student photos are displayed on the Student Form.

Linking the Students to their Photo

If the photos have the Student Number as the filename:

Go to PEOPLE>STUDENTS and click on FIND to call up all the student records
Select EDIT mode
Right click on the photo area and select GLOBAL CHANGE
Click on APPLY to apply the change to all the selected student records

All students will now be linked to their photos.

If the photos have the student's name as the file name:

Go to PEOPLE>STUDENTS and select a student
Select EDIT mode
Click on the BROWSE button below the photo area and find the student's photo
Highlight the photo and click on OPEN. The student will now be linked to their photo.
Repeat for each student that is to be linked to a photo

  Website of the Week

www.triv.net
Do you think you might be a good candidate for "Who Wants to be a Millionaire"?

This website provides you with the opportunity to find out! Each quiz on the site has 15 questions, ranging from easy to extremely difficult, similar to the TV show. You are also given some familiar lifelines; ask a friend, 50/50, ask the audience. Unfortunately no money can be won, this is just for fun!

The quiz menu lists quizzes grouped by the date they were created and also by category. You can even submit your own quiz.

The site also features a Weird Trivia section that provides some unusual, and sometimes macabre, pieces of information. For example, did you know that Italian mathematician Geronimo Cardano, famous for his accurate horoscope predictions predicted his own death in 1576, even down to the exact hour. When the time came he was still alive and well so he killed himself rather than be proven wrong!
