Support During Christmas-New Year Holidays

We would like to advise schools that the Human Edge Support Centre will be open up to Christmas Eve, Wednesday December 24. During the Christmas-New Year period our offices will be closed from Thursday December 25 to Friday January 2. If you will require support during this period, please contact David Lacy on (03) 9690 5044 to make arrangements. The support centre will reopen on Monday January 5.

New Release of SAS2000 Available Shortly

The expected release date for the next release of SAS2000 (version 656) is Thursday November 20. This new release will include fixes to several issues that have been reported in version 655 and will also include new features such as:

The Medical report now lets you print for a single student.
The Indigenous Students Report now has total summary at the end, similar to Students with Disabilities Report
An option is now available to view Note Diary by Year or by Class
A new Student Birthday List Report
The Family List Report now has the option to print the Family's Residential Structure (ie: marriage status) and also the occupation of the family contacts.
New "Cheque Bottom Layout". Designed in conjunction with a group of schools in the Melbourne Diocese, this layout is similar to our Top Cheque Style B layout, except with the Cheque at the bottom and the Office remittance at the top. Special thanks to Karyn at St. Brendan's in Somerville for organising. If you would like details of where to order these new cheques, please contact David Lacy via email, david@humanedge.biz

You will receive e-mail notification to advise of actual release time.

How do I process a Conveyance Allowance?

Several of our Melbourne based Catholic Schools have asked how they should process the conveyance allowance. A conveyance allowance is paid directly to the school as a grant for students who qualify by travelling more than 5km to school. Below are the steps, approved by the CEO in Melbourne that you should use to process correctly into SAS2000.

Receipt Money. Go to RECEIPTS > RECEIPTS and choose the SUNDRY BUTTON on the top left hand corner of the form. Add a Sundry Receipt for the full amount of money received. Use the General Ledger income account code that represents DEST AFS Code 0650 - State Government Conveyancing Allowance.
Process Payment to Families. Go to GENERAL LEDGER > WRITE CHEQUES. For each of the qualifying families write a cheque for the appropriate amount. Use the General Ledger Expense account code that represents DEST AFS Code 4080 - Non Tuition Transport Payment.

Note: If a number of families have authorised the school to match the amount off their account (ie: agreed to sign the cheque over to the school) then you could write a single cheque to the school for their amounts and re-bank.

The total of cheques drawn should be the total of monies received in the first step.
Apply amount to Family Accounts. Go to RECEIPTS > RECEIPTS. For those families who have signed over their cheques you can now process receipts against their accounts for the appropriate amount. Process receipts as normal for other parents as they pay their accounts.

Website of the Week

http://www.abc.net.au/btn/

News websites are one of the most popular types of sites these days, but there are not many that cater specifically for schools and to a child's point of view. The Behind the News website is one of the few sites to do so and is the companion site for the long running school oriented news programme that screens every week on the ABC.

The site features the most current stories that have been on the show, along with questions and learning exercises designed to encourage discussion on the issues involved.

Also interesting are the profiles on famous Australians and the compilations of BtN stories listed in the specials section.
